Darold recently represented the City of Pasadena in the renovation of
its historic City Hall and continues to represent the city in the
expansion of its convention center. From 1984 through 1993 he was
Special Counsel to the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission
(now the Los Angeles County MTA) and oversaw all legal matters relating
to the successful development, construction and completion of the Metro
Blue Line rail transit project between downtown Los Angeles and Long
Beach. He negotiated and purchased the rights-of-way for the Metro Blue
Line from Southern Pacific Transportation Company and was in charge of
the two major construction accident investigations involving the
Commission's projects: the collapse of a Metro Blue Line bridge span
and falsework over Firestone Boulevard and the noted Metro Red Line
tunnel fire under the Hollywood Freeway. He has also advised on issues
concerning the Metro Green Line and the Metro Gold Line.
As a member of the League of California Citys Transportation,
Communication and Public Works Policy Committee since 1995, he actively
assists California cities in formulating their policies on public works
matters. He has lectured at the annual Public Works Officers Institute
since 1999 on developments in the California laws affecting public
works. He was also the original co-author of the public works chapter
of the California Municipal Law Handbook published by the City
Attorneys Department of the League of California Cities.
